Within a few weeks after the incident, you will receive a Notice to Appear in the District Court of Maryland for the criminal charges. The DUI offenses are "must aapear" offenses. Unlike minor traffic offenses, such as speeding, you do not have the option to plead guilty and send in the pre-printed fine on the ticket to the State. The reason is that each DUI offense carries with it a potential of a jail sentence. In the event that you received additional minor traffic tickets with the more serious DUI tickets, you should not pay those tickets prior to the court date for the DUI unless you have had an opportunity to discuss the matter with counsel.
